This entry was written in August 2020 for a blog I've since abandoned.

Some of this may be outdated.

Introduction

I do intuitive readings with DnD dice. I started off by asking my dice yes/no/maybe questions, and realized before long that I could create a system to do much more complex and informative readings with them. After assigning a few of the dice different metrics, I watched a few YouTubers who'd done similar things with theirs to bounce ideas, and before long I developed my own unique way to read them.

The Dice

In a standard DnD dice set, there're seven dice, each named after the amount of sides they have: D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20 and Percentile. The Percentile is a D10 that has zeros after the numbers to make percentages of 100. In my readings, I use these dice as well as a special D26 I bought from the internet. If you do your own readings, and find that there's something you want to incorporate that requires a die with a unique number of sides, you can special order one with however many sides you like :)

How I Read Them

In my readings, I do multiple rolls to find out different things. For most readings, I'll do an elemental roll with all of the dice to get a general feel for what's going on. To get specifics or advice I'll use four of the dice to do an astrology roll. Then to answer questions I'll use other misc. dice depending on the type of question.

Elemental Roll

In the days of ancient Greece, people believed that everything was made up of the seven elements. They believed that each element had a unique shape, and that those little shapes took the place of what we now know as molecules. Conveniently, they happen to be the same shapes as the seven DnD dice, and are as follows:

For an elemental roll, I roll all of the dice at once, then I interpret each die as that amount of it's element. For example, rolling a 10 with a D20 means water is at 50%, while rolling a 10 with a D10 says void is at 100%. I use these elements to determine what kind of energy is manifesting in someones life or situation as each element represents different things. Here's what I associate each element with:

  • Fire  -  Passion/Anger
  • Earth  -  Stability/Relationships/Job
  • Air  -  Thought Patterns/Courage
  • Void  -  Obstacles/Negativity
  • Æther  -  Spititual Connection
  • Water  -  Emotions/Truth
  • Quintessence  -  Perfection/Positivity

When the dice are unclear, I usually interpret them however they make sense to me in the moment. Sometimes a few dice will stick out as more important than the others, and I'll pay more attention to them. Another thing to note is that readings get clearer the more you read, since you gain more reference points.

Astrology Roll

To get more specifics or a better understanding of something, I'll do an astrology roll. For this, I use four dice to represent different things:

  • Chakras are listed 1-7 with Root as 1 and Crown as 7. I consider 8 as Grey, which to me is room to create.
  • Zodiac Signs are listed 1-12 with Aries as 1 and Pisces as 12.
  • Major Arcana are listed 1-20 excluding 0 and 21. For my readings, 1 is Magician, and 20 is Judgement; however, different decks list the Major Arcana in different orders, so go with whatever deck you prefer.
  • Planets are listed 10-90 with Mercury as 10 and Pluto as 90; however, Moon is 30 seeing as the Earth isn't used in terrestrial astrology, and the Sun is 00.

When I do an astrology roll, I see what planet I rolled, and what it means for that planet to be in the sign I rolled. I also see what Major Arcana card and Chakra I rolled and see how they relate to the reading. Usually the message in an astrology roll won't be too abstract. I'm not sharing what the planets, signs, cards or chakras mean to me in this part though, because that's research that's best done on your own.

Rolling for Answers

Different types of questions can be answered with the following dice:

  • D4 has 1 and 2 for No, and 3 and 4 for Yes.
  • D6 has 1 and 2 for No, 3 and 4 for Neither, and 5 and 6 for Yes.
  • D10 + Percentile are added up to calculate percentage of 100.

These numbers are just what make sense to me, but you can do these however you want. Just be smart about which questions you use which die for. Not every question has a yes or no answer, and it's best to be prepared for any possible answer to your question before you ask it.

Also, 'neither' often means 'figure it out for yourself,' and percentage is commonly used for 'what are the odds' situations, but can be used for other things.

D26

When I started using dice to read, I thought it would be really cool to incorporate the alphabet, so I ordered a D26 from the internet. I found that Spirit rarely talks to me by spelling words, but they have before. Often I'll roll for a letter and see what word (starting with that letter) comes to mind to me or someone I'm reading. Sometimes I also interpret letters based on their individual meanings (such as 'I' meaning you should focus on yourself, or 'Z' representing the end of something).

Divination Table

Because my readings have so much for me to keep track of, I made a divination table to reference when I need to. The more I use it, the more I memorize it and have to use it less (which is cool). If you make your own system with multiple things to keep track of, I'd highly suggest making one. Here's mine:

Using Dice with Tarot

When I use tarot in my readings, I often will roll a D8 to determine how many cards to draw, then once I lay them out, I roll the dice across the cards, and interpret them elemantally based on what cards they touch. Typically I'll flip them up-side-up after I do this, so as to not influence the roll. Keep in mind, I'm not a tarot reader who uses dice; I'm an astragalomancer who happens to use tarot :)

Outroduction

I just shared how I read dice. I hope it made sense, and that you got something out of it. You can use this method if you want, or make up your own way to read them.

Something to keep in mind as you read is to know who your talking with. I personally will always try to speak with my guides, or entities that I know personally. This is because it's dangerous talking to dark spirits no matter what medium you use.

Anyway, thanks for reading. Sincerely, Connie Candles
